Triad Zouk Dance

Triad Zouk is co-hosted and organized by Andrew, a collaborator at Triad Social Dance, and Julia. Triad Zouk hosts zouk dance classes, socials, and bootcamps. We offer Monday class series, usually for 3-5 weeks in a row. Check out the Triad Zouk facebook page for the upcoming schedule.

What is Zouk?

Zouk is a beautiful partner dance originating in Brazil, but has expanded to be a truly international dance. It’s often danced to a wide range of modern music. Check out this Zouk Spotify playlist for some examples!

Zouk dance can incorporate a wide range of creativity and connection, with influences from and similarities with Samba, Salsa, Bachata, Modern, Kizomba, Ballet and more! Zouk allow for both open connection, closed position, close embrace, and even “wifi” where partners dance without touching using visual cues. The footwork is easy and flowy, with the basics using a slow-quick-quick rhythm to medium-tempo music. Types of movements can include turns, spins, cuddles, head movements, ochos, counterbalance, laterals, yo-yos, and more!

Where to dance Zouk in the Triad

In addition to Triad Zouk classes & socials, Triad Social Dance includes zouk in our class rotation, and zouk music in our social dance playlists for Latin Dance Tuesdays @ East of Texas.
